Over the next few years, and ongoing, we continue to see enormous change required in order to meet the aspirations of the Long Term Plan, and the support needed for leadership roles has been further recognised through the General Practice Five Year Forward View, and the National Improvement and Leadership Development Board’s “Developing People – Improving Care” and People Plan.
“The key challenge for all NHS organisations is to nurture cultures that ensure the delivery of continuously improving high quality, safe and compassionate health care. Leadership is the more influential factor in shaping organisational culture, and so ensuring the necessary leadership behaviours, strategies and qualities is fundamental” West, et al, 2019.
The pressures of an ageing population, the need for better health outcomes, an increased use of technology, the introduction of Integrated Care Systems, and greater collaboration through Primary Care Networks (PCNs), all on top of a continued response to a Worldwide Pandemic, all present leadership challenges for those working across primary care.
Leaders will need to work more collectively across networks and systems, to be visionary in designing future services, and more effective in leading and working across Multi-Disciplinary Teams (MDTs) to help improve the quality of patient care and the health and well-being of local communities.
This year our focus is on Recovery and Regeneration, Culture and Change and Integration and Systems. We work with a variety of partners to design and deliver a range of webinars, workshops, programmes and resources that will be available across the region to our Primary Care colleagues. Primary Care Team Development Toolkit
We know that taking time off the ‘treadmill’ to re-group and reconnect is important when it comes to performance and wellbeing, and that this is true for teams as well as for individuals.
Anna Springett has worked with us at the academy to create a toolkit for team development. The toolkit supports teams to spend time together, get to know each other, discuss what is important to them and ultimately consider how they can be more effective in continuing to deliver care to our patients and citizens.
